Pirate Enclave #13.8 Since 1999
As Hakim Bey wrote about “the Sea-Rovers and Corsairs of the 18th century,” the Pirate Enclave functions as a “remote hideout where ships can be watered and provisioned, booty traded for luxuries and necessities.”
Sometimes we think of our loose association as a think tank. The articles, stories and art meant to bolster the stance against authority of all shades, including, including, of course, that of the ship's captain. Calling it an "anarchist" think tank is part send up of conservative and liberal think tanks that regularly sell their opinions and part admiration for the ideas of Kropotkin, Bakunin and Proudhon.
You will see a lot of my work on the site, so it may be criticized as a kind of resume, or personal website. Even if I do not think of it as my My Space.
PE launched in 1999 with a practical joke about quitting that elicited a voluminous response from some very interesting people, friends, artists, thinkers around the web.
It evolved into a monthly electronic magazine, and in recent years has featured infrequent new content.
The guiding metaphor in communiqués to members may refers “Me Arties” or fellow “swashbucklers” You are, ostensibly, the crew of this pirate ship.
As pirates if we had a credo it would more probably be Give what you can, take what you need! than that proposed by Disney, “Take what you can, give nothing back!”
We have not developed a manifesto, or any true articles of association.
First Mate Cecil might quip this is because we don’t believe in anything. Of course, First Mate Cecil might also say we are staunchly anti-fascist, or that we advocate sustainable economy or that we love punk rock. Cornered in argument, he would be forced to admit that we read more than we write, and hopefully think more than we speak.
One thing is sure, being in this ship together, the black flag has been raised and the cry “Fuck Shit Up!” resounds with an explanation: Because shit needs to be fucked up.
Sincere Welcome, Jimmy Jazz de facto captain of the Good Ship Pirate Enclave
